AT just seven years old, Luca Narraway is about to follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in British motorsport.

Racing-mad Luca from Appleton will race in the Superone Bambino Karting Championship competition during the coming season, which starts in April.

It is the same competition in which reigning Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and fellow British racer David Coulthard started their careers decades before him.

With two years of experience under his belt, he is considered one of the favourites to take home the drivers’ championship.

Luca in action

Luca, who attends Cobbs Infants School in Appleton Thorn, started karting aged five and came second in his first ever race at Hooton Park on the Wirral.

Having won races and trophies aplenty locally, he stepped up to the national stage last year in the Bambino Karting Championship against the best drivers of his age.

After a slow start, Luca eventually progressed to a highest finish of sixth in the final race as well as gaining experience of tracks all over the country and racing live on Youtube, with one particular race being viewed more than 350,000 times.

Now, a 12-race season starting on April 4 awaits him, with races to be held at Fulbeck, Rowrah, Glen y gors, Clay Pigeon, Wiltom Mill and Shennington.

Before then, however, Luca and his father Lee are heading to Spain next week for winter testing and a race in Valencia.
