FORMER Warrington Wolves star Kurt Gidley will be coming out of retirement to play in the NRL Nines this weekend.
Gidley, who played two seasons with The Wire before retiring at the end of 2017, will turn out for the Newcastle Knights – the club with whom he spent his entire NRL career before moving to England.
The former New South Wales and Australia star, now 37, made 55 appearances in primrose and blue, scoring 14 tries and kicking 116 goals.
Following last year's World Cup Nines tournament in Sydney, the NRL decided to revive the shortened format for the first time since 2017.
Perth plays host to the tournament, which is played over two days and features every NRL club. Gidley and the Knights are in Pool A along with Sydney Roosters, Penrith Panthers and New Zealand Warriors.
UK viewers can watch the tournament unfold on Sky Sports Arena and Main Event from 8am tomorrow.
