GARETH Widdop appears likely to make his Warrington Wolves debut in Sunday’s trip to Wakefield Trinity.

The marquee half-back has returned to training after an ankle injury forced him to miss the start of the season.

Initial projections forecast a return against Toronto Wolfpack in round four, but head coach Steve Price says the England international is in his thoughts for the trip to the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

“He’ll definitely come into consideration for the 21-man squad,” he said.

“It’s been six days since our last game and it was our minus four day back today. We’ve still got a fair few days to see how the team comes together.

“We’ve had a good session today, we’ll have one tomorrow and then captain’s run on Saturday. I’ll have more of an indication on Friday.

“He’s been doing some really good training and has got a fair bit of volume into him.

“Even last week, he was out on the field a lot. The 10-day turnaround into this week has helped more.”

There is not such good news on co-captain Jack Hughes, however, as the game comes too soon for him. He will continue his recovery from double hernia surgery.

“Jack is improving, but there’s still no time frame on him,” he said.

“He’s doing everything he can to be out there with the boys but it’s more about little steps for Hughesey.”

Price confirmed there were no fresh injuries in his squad. Co-captain Chris Hill remains suspended so Stefan Ratchford will skipper the side once again.
