ST HELENS prop Matty Lees has been cautioned by the RFL’s Match Review Panel for his part in a flashpoint during his side’s 19-0 defeat to The Wire on Thursday.

Lees appeared to rip a bandage from the head of Mike Cooper after a stiff-armed tackle on the Wolves prop, which sparked a mass melee between players from both sides.

Referee Chris Kendall awarded The Wire a penalty on the field, which Stefan Ratchford converted for the final points of the evening.

Lees has escaped a ban but his actions have been deemed worthy of a caution for “other contrary behaviour.”

Incidents involving Wire players Joe Philbin (contact with the head on Lees, sixth minute), Ben Murdoch-Masila (high tackle on Jonny Lomax, eighth minute) and Anthony Gelling (contact with the head on Mark Percival, 41st minute) and Saints’ Luke Thompson (dangerous contact on Josh Charnley, 14th minute) were all looked at by the Match Review Panel but no charges were brought.
