IT was a busy weekend for Warrington Futsal Club as three of their age-group pitted their wits against teams from around the region.

In their bid to ultimately compete at St George’s Park – the base of the England national football teams – in the FA Youth Futsal Club finals, the under 10s, under 14s and under 16s were all in action at Manchester's Platt Lane Complex.

Kicking off the weekend, braces from Oliver Fitzhugh and James Jones helped the under 10s to a 4-0 win over Worthon Titans before Fitzhugh got a last-minute winner in a 2-1 win over Athletico Buckshaw, with George Ng also scoring.

Fitzhugh was on the scoresheet again against Elite Athletico but this time Warrington fell to a 2-1 defeat which cost them qualification despite beating Carlisle Futsal Club 5-0 in their final game.

Ng scored a brace with Jones, Ethan McDermott and Jun Nakata also on the scoresheet.

On day two of the tournament, the under 14s held on for a 3-2 win against AFC Stanley as Owen Percival, twice, and Miller Hunter netted.

However, they then went down 5-3 to Carlisle – Jamie Regan, Aaron Whalley and Jack McGlinchey with the Warrington goals – and 4-2 to Bolton Futsal Club despite Regan and McGlinchey scoring once again.

Their final game saw them improve to beat Belle Vale 4-2 as Hunter scored twice to score with further goals from McGlinchey and Harvey Kehoe.

The under 14s squad

The under 16s rounded things off as the youngest team in their group which included heavyweights Manchester Futsal Club, to whom they fell to a 6-0 defeat in their opener despite several impressive saves from Josh Roberts.

They bounced back in their next match as goals from Adam Moseley and Jack Wheatley gave them a 2-0 win against Newcastle United’s Foundation squad, but they could not follow it up against Prees FC as they succumbed to a 5-0 loss.

They managed to finish with a flourish, though, as Allerton FC were dispatched 9-2 thanks in no small part to a hat-trick from Moseley and a brace from Wheatley. Dylan Buckley, Josh Crocket, Lewis Fallows and Josh McDonald also got on the scoresheet.
