ORLA Gregory and David Watson both lead their age groups as Warrington Athletics Club members shone again in the latest round of Manchester Area Cross Country League action.

Following a superb race win at Tatton Park, Gregory heads the standings in the girls under 15s age group while Watson leads the way in the masters over 45s following his 24th-place overall finish in the seniors race.

Gregory competed the Tatton Park course in 16mins 47secs and was joined in the top 10 by clubmate Eva Ferris, who was seventh in 18mins 15secs.

Lucie Davies came home 13th in 18mins 40secs and her time combined with those of Gregory and Ferris allowed Warrington to win the team event.

The under 15s squad was completed by Jasmine Jones, who came 18th in 19mins 5secs, and Ben Clayton – the club’s only runner in the boys’ race in which he finished 50th by clocking 22mins 47secs.

Watson’s time of 34mins 23secs was the fastest by a Warrington runner in the senior races, but Steve Watmough was an age group winner as his time of 36mins 47secs was the quickest of any over 55s athlete.

Daniel Neman placed 212th overall and 14th in the over 50s category while the club had two runners in the women’s race.

Emma Pryor ran well to come home as 25th fastest in the over 35s and 112th overall in 39mins 52secs – 10 seconds ahead of clubmate Faye Lawton, who was 117th overall and 42nd in the 20-34 age group.

In the younger age groups, Jack Marwood picked up an excellent result to finish second in the boys’ under 13s race in 12mins 43secs, with clubmate Jacob Pryor clocking 13mins 41secs to finish 21st.

Alice Nicholson continued her good form in the girls’ race to lead the Warrington team to fourth place in the team event.

She finished seventh in 14mins 5secs and was followed home by Imogen and Nia Wharton, who came 13th and 17th respectively while Evie Owen (48th) completed the squad.

Ellie Barker took the final place in the top 10 in the girls’ under 11s race as she clocked 10mins 28secs, with Sinead Gregory 25th and Brooke Watson 40th as the team finished in seventh place. Natasha Andrews completed the squad in 68th place.

For the boys, Spencer Astbury ran well to place 18th in 10mins 20secs with Dylan Langley clocking 11mins 39secs to finish 41st.

In the women’s under 17s race, Siobhan Gregory came home 19th in 28mins 25secs with Fay Humphreys 25th in 33mins 36secs.
