WHAT a week is has been for Rylands forward Kane Drummond.

Just hours after being named the North West Counties League Premier Division's player of the month for December yesterday, he scored Blues' late winner in a priceless 2-1 win at Irlam.

Drummond continued his superb form from last month in which he scored three times in five games by rounding the keeper and slotting home in the 86th minute to complete a fine comeback by Dave McNabb's side.

It had looked like they would fall to three straight defeats when a cross from Irlam's Dylan Meredith beat everybody and found its way past keeper Calum Spencer.

However, Tom McNamara equalised for Blues by latching onto Gary Kenny's lofted pass to score before Drummond stepped up to be the match-winner late on.

"I thought we started really well and looked dangerous," McNabb said.

"Irlam scored from a cross-cum-shot after nine minutes and it knocked the stuffing out of us for the next 15-20 minutes.

"Irlam are a brilliant side and moved the ball really well.

"We finished the half strongly and could have got the equaliser but for some good defending by Irlam.

"We asked the lads to be more expressive and braver in possession at half time and I thought we dominated the second half and fully deserved the three points.

"A brilliant performance all round."
