SLICK handling and speed gave Warrington RUFC’s under 16s the bragging rights against neighbours Lymm on Sunday.
With Warrington holding the Lancashire Cup and Lymm the Cheshire equivalent, this was a friendly match but well contested all the same.
Lymm operated with an aggressive defence, but that gave them little time or options in attack and thus the visitors took control.
Skipper Nathan Bass finished with a hat-trick of tries, with Rorio Zheng crossing twice in a comfortable 48-5 victory for Warrington.
Christian Johnston, Leo Zheng and Jude Lightfoot also grabbed tries for the travelling team, with Mike Butler crossing for Lymm’s only score.
“Whilst there will never really be a friendly between these two teams, it makes sense that we can help each other out with Lymm’s competition being Cheshire and ours Lancashire,” Warrington team manager Mike Malley said.
“It’s nice getting the bragging rights, but we wish them well in retaining the Cheshire Cup.
“We hope to pull together some joint training sessions later in the season.”
Warrington are back in Lancashire Cup action on Sunday as they face Vale of Lune at Grappenhall Sports Club, kick off 11am.
