HE may not have been able to prevent defeat, but Manchester United's Europa League trip to Astana will be one Longford's Jesse Lingard will always remember.
The former William Beamont High School student wore the United captain's armband for the very first time...and he capped the occasion with a goal.
At 26, Lingard was the oldest outfield player in the Red Devils side as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picked a young side for the trip to Kazakhstan.
The England international opened the scoring with a long-range effort as he broke a 28-game personal goal drought, but the hosts came back to record a 2-1 victory.
However, United had already qualified from their Europa League group before kick off.
Standing up as skipper 🤟
