IMAGINE competing on the same stage as Olympic legends.

That is what four girls from Great Sankey High School got to do – and they did themselves proud, too.

Natasha Gayter and Lauren Jones, both 14, and 13-year-olds Sophie Weston and Millie Duncan represented the school at the English School Swimming Association national competition having finished as the fifth fastest medley relay team in the country.

That meant they got to compete at the London Olympic Aquatics Centre, in the same pool in which the 2012 Olympic Games swimming events were held.

The year nine and 10 girls finished third in their heat to qualify for the finals – the only comprehensive school to reach that stage – and came seventh with some fantastic personal best times.

The Great Sankey team qualified for London by winning medley and freestyle gold at the ESSA regional competition at Everton Leisure Centre last month.
