VETERAN Martin Murray has finished his year with a comfortable points win in the eight-rounder against Sladan Janjanin.

The 37-year-old Warrington-based fighter was always in control against the Bosnian with a good knockout record, but now he has his sights set on bigger things again in 2020.

Murray has been made mandatory challenger for the European middleweight belt.

The four-time World title challenger is now also able to get a visa to the USA, an issue that has denied him big fights in the past.

After what he described as an easy night’s work at the Liverpool Olympia on Friday, Murray said: “We knew he was going to come out swinging and that he could punch, but he had nothing to trouble me at this weight.

“I thought he was going in round three, but he kept hanging in.

“I am my own worst critic but people like that need to be going earlier.

“That said, I need bigger fights to test me because I rise to the occasion.

“Janjanin was game but he was never going to test me.”

After contemplating retirement last year, Murray has options again and is enjoying fighting without pressure.

“I know I am in the latter stages of my career, but I know there is a big fight out there for me,” he said.

“I believe that there’s a mandatory European shot there for me next year and also hope that by getting a visa will now open the door for America.”
