WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s Steve Watmough represented England in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International at Aintree Racecourse on Saturday.

Competing in the race for 50 to 64 years old runners, Watmough finished in 28th place overall with 28mins 34secs.

This placed Steve sixth in the over 55s event and he was the fourth England runner to finish in the age group.

England won that team event although with only three to count for the team Watmough was a non-scorer.

Under 15s athlete Corey Beechall was the only one from Warrington AC to compete in the Northern Athletics Indoor Open meeting at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Saturday.

Beechall finished sixth in the shot putt with a throw of 6.35m and was 13th under 15 in the long jump with 3.89m.

Meanwhile,Warrington Athletics Club’s Colin Bishop finished third overall in the Northern Masters 5K Road Race Championships at the Brownlee Cycle Circuit on Boddington Playing Fields at University of Leeds on Saturday.

He clocked 17mins 35secs, while the winner Daniel McKewon (Ilkley) got over the line in 16mins 48secs from clubmate Istvan Jacso who won the masters title with 17mins 12secs.

Bishop won the silver medal in the Championships overall and also took the over 55s age group title, winning that by almost two-and-a-half minutes.

Two of Warrington Athletics Club’s master runners took part in the Preston 10 miles Road Race on Sunday with Mervyn Ward finishing 85th overall in 1hr 5mins 06secs to win the over 60s age group and Louise Blizzard finishing in 104th place in 1hr 7mins 40secs to finish 12th woman and third over 40s woman.
