LAST season, Warrington Town won so many points with goals in the final few minutes of games.

This was another shining example of that never-say-die spirit that has served them so well.

By no means was this a perfect Yellows display, nor did it really come close to their performance seven days earlier against Hyde, but they found a way.

In the grand scheme of things, that is all that matters.

> Late winner 'a big sign' that Town are on the up

It is this kind of game in which Town have been falling down, especially at home.

Visiting teams – often backed up by the opening goal – have put the onus on them to break them down and too often, they have fallen short.

If they would have been frustrated again, a lot of their good work from last week would have been undone but Tony Gray’s winner means their momentum continues to grow.

Stafford had the air of a team desperate to rebuild their season having won only once in the league before kick off.

They set up to frustrate and counter and while Yellows were once again making progress in the wide areas, their final ball was letting them down.

Had Gray have taken a gilt-edged early chance, though, it would have been easy to imagine Town being a little more convincing.

Then when Paul Bignot bundled home from a set piece, the tale had a familiar air to it.

That goal seemed to bring Stafford out of their shell a little and as well as holding Town at bay, they were looking dangerous on the break.

However, once the previously impressive goalkeeper Lewis King spilled a simple cross into Ben Garrity’s path, there only looked to be one team capable of going on to win.

Their delivery from wide areas and general potency in the final third still needs to improve, but it is now back-to-back victories on home soil.

With a tough run of fixtures coming up, they will take what they can get.
