THERE was a distinctly international flavour to the competition for Warrington Futsal Club at the weekend.

As opposed to regular league games, the club got the chance to test their mettle against overseas players when the touring Australia Futsal squad paid a visit.

Warrington’s under 14s boys and girls teams both got to play friendly fixtures against their opposition from Down Under at Cardinal Newman High School.

The boys found themselves a goal down after just 10 seconds and despite equalising, they trailed 3-1 at the interval.

However, a strong response after the break allowed the home side to pull level and with both keepers busy in the closing stages, the match finished in an entertaining 4-4 draw.

A few of the Warrington girls players were younger than their counterparts but ran them close on several occasions as they took centre stage.

Much like the boys, they trailed 3-1 at the break and while they narrowed the deficit in the second period, the Australians eventually stretched out to a 5-2 victory.

Girls' training sessions for the under 14s team upwards are held on Friday evenings. Contact colin@warringtonfutsal.com or robbie@warringtonfutsal.com for details.
