DESPITE being stopped from winning for the first time this season, Warrington Hockey Club men’s firsts remain the team to beat.

Jordan Penfold’s deflected effort pulled them level against Clwb Hoci Eirias in North West Hockey League Division Two South, but they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw to end a run of four consecutive victories.

The seconds got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory at Chester, with Iain Richards scoring the winner after a first ever senior goal from Ben Brown had put Warrington ahead.

The women’s firsts fought hard against free-scoring Whitchurch but could not prevent a 4-0 defeat while the seconds fell victim to a late winner against Triton despite goals from Grace Graham and Emma Turner.

Vicky Stoll was voted as player of the match for a fine display in attack and defence, but Triton's late goal from a short corner ensured a 3-2 defeat for Warrington.
