WHILE stressing any point away at Scarborough Athletic is a good one, Warrington Town boss Paul Carden thinks his team should have been “out of sight” before half-time in their 1-1 draw.

Scott Sephton had put Yellows in front at the Flamingo Land Stadium – a place they lost last season – but their lead lasted just two minutes as Chris Dawson equalised for the Seadogs.

It is now three league games without a win for Town and Carden rued another case of missed chances.

“I thought we should have been out of sight in the first half. We scored a decent goal – something we’ve worked on – but we allowed them to come straight back into it.

“Jack (Mackreth) had a big chance at 0-0, another big chance at 1-1 and we had a couple of other situations where we should have done better.

“When you don’t take your chances, you run the risk of the game going the way it did in the second half, which I thought was scrappy.

“On the second half, I think the draw was about right but we’re disappointed that we haven’t come in for half time in the lead.

“We lacked a bit of control in the second half that we had in the first. When we did put passes together, we looked like we could do something.

“We knew they would try to hit James Walshaw up front – I think the goal they scored was the most number of passes they put together without being disrespectful.

“A point here is a good point, whatever form they are in going into the game.”

Sephton prodded Yellows in front after getting on the end of a cross from Alex Byrne, but Town had barely touched the ball after the restart before the ball was in the back of their net.

Dawson cut in from the left and smashed an unstoppable effort into Tony McMillan’s top corner to level matters.

Despite the excellent nature of Dawson’s goal, Carden insists his side could have done more to stop it happening.

“It’s a good strike, bit it’s preventable,” he said.

“We should do better in the situation leading to the goal.

“They push the ball wide and we stand off them, the lad gets through and smashes it in the far post.

“It’s a great finish and they will look at it as a well-worked goal but you look at it from the other point of view and we could do better.”
