IF this weekend was a sign of things to come, Warrington Futsal Club’s older players are in for quite a season.

The under 16s and under 14s enjoyed days to remember as they opened their FA North West Youth Futsal League campaigns on Saturday, with both dominating established teams.

Josh Crocket, Lewis Fallows and Josh McDonald all scored twice as Tranmere Rovers were beaten 10-4, with further goals coming from Dylan Buckley, George Taylor, Adam Moseley and an own goal.

“After the first five minutes, we settled down and stuttered through the half, taking a lead into half time,” head coach Mike Moseley said.

“The second half, however, I thought we were fantastic.

“We created lots of chances, played with more confidence and showed some real moments of class.”

The under 14s thrashed Sala 8-0 thanks to a ruthless, six-goal second half display.

Miller Hunter scored a hat-trick for Warrington, with Jamie Regan adding two while Callum Bold, Owen Percival, Harvey Kehoe also found the net.

“We settled into the game having been fortunate not to concede a goal – some great defending and goalkeeping kept us in the game,” coach Matt Kehoe said.

“As we went into the second half, the confidence of the players started to show.

“We didn’t concede as much possession and punished our opponents with the majority of our attacks and ended up winners in a very competitive game.”

Warrington’s under 8s also played their first league game and came away with a positive result against Sala.

“The pace and movement seemed to catch us off guard initially in the first quarter, but we slowly found our feet and were in a positive position going into the second half,” coach Andrew Fahey said.

“There was some great distribution and link-up play going forward from goalkeeper to attack.

“There were real positives and some areas for improvement on how we transition back into defensive shapes.”

All three sides play their next fixtures on October 19 at the Trafford Centre Fives venue.
