WOOLSTON Rovers will have a second chance to lift the National Conference League Division Three title on Saturday.

Their final game of the season sees them welcome Batley Boys to Monk Sports Club.

Because of their superior points difference, Mal Holt’s side need only avoid defeat to be crowned champions but the head coach knows how tricky that will be.

Despite it being tight at the top, however, Holt believes his side can go into the game with no pressure.

“At the beginning of pre-season our goal was to get out of this division without having to go through the play offs,” he said.

“We have achieved that, so the pressure is off us.

“Obviously now we have the chance to win the league, we would love to do that and the lads will be going out on Saturday to do it.

“Batley Boys are a very tough side who have have been in great form and to have guaranteed a play-off place in their first season in the NCL is a great achievement.

“We ground out a 10-2 win at their place in the second game of the season where defences were certainly very much on top.

“We will be in for a hard battle but it is one that we will be relishing.

“It is a chance to thank our supporters for the great backing they have given us all year and hopefully we will able to cap it off by lifting the league trophy.”

Rovers missed their first chance to secure the title by slipping to a last-gasp 30-28 defeat at Oldham St Annes on Saturday.

Woolston led by 10 points as the game approached the final quarter, but the hosts fought back to put their champagne on ice.

“It was a disappointing display by us – St Annes capitalised on some uncharacteristic mistakes and made us pay a heavy price.

“They played the small pitch to their advantage and we struggled with their pace around the play-the-ball.

The lads were a little down afterwards but we will be ready to go again on Saturday.

“It is still in our own hands, which is a big bonus.”
