AFTER kicking off the newly-founded FA North West Youth Futsal League on Saturday, Warrington Futsal Club are in high spirits.

The club’s under 10s and under 12s teams performed admirably in their first competitive games, which were held at Liverpool College.

While there were initial struggles, both teams grew into their respective games and offered plenty of encouragement going forward.

“Our main focus moving forward is to let the players continue their development throughout the rest of the season,” club chairman Karl Burns said.

“It’s down to the coaches to ensure that they are able to freely express themselves in a fun environment.”

Under 12s head coach Greg Clare has plenty to ponder after watching his team play twice – a league fixture against Tranmere Rovers followed by a friendly match.

“As a coach, it was fantastic to see how well they competed against a team that have played together for over three years,” he said.

“Considering the short time we have been together it really was a superb effort.

“It was also rewarding to see the players bring into match day some of the key principles we have been working on in training over the first few weeks.

“Although it is still early days for our team, the foundations are now in place to build upon this over the coming months.

“In possession, we looked threatening when we attacked together as a team, however we were caught on the counterattack by a well-drilled Tranmere team, so we will certainly need to work on our positioning and decision making when out of possession.

“This will be something we will need to work on over the next few games before our next game.”

Both teams play their next fixtures on Saturday, October 5, at the Trafford Centre Fives venue.
