THEY may have been relegated, but Grappenhall are looking optimistically at life in Division One of the Cheshire County Cricket League next season.

They wrapped up their campaign by drawing with Toft at Broad Lane – a game in which they improved markedly with the bat.

Skipper Adam Roylance scored 63, with Olly Knight and Will Fell contributing 58 and 48 respectively in a score of 244 all out.

Roylance and Josh Hayes then took three wickets each with the ball, but Toft hung on for a draw as they finished nine wickets down and three runs short of their target.

Meanwhile, Appleton avoided relegation in the Cheshire Cricket League on the final day of their season.

Defending a low total of 128-6, the home bowlers dismissed Woodford for just 51 at Lyons Lane to secure victory and survival after relegation rivals Irby could only manage a draw.

Ian Macauley was Appleton's star with the ball, taking four wickets.
