APPLETON triathlete Dan Harbidge is setting his sights on longer-distance “Ironman” events with the goal of qualifying for the World Championships.
The 25-year-old will be training for up to 12 hours per week in preparation for the Ironman 70.3 race in Turkey, which takes place in November.
He will be representing Liverpool-based club North Endurance at the race, which consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and finishes with a half-marathon run.
Harbidge is hoping a good performance will see him earn a place at next year’s World Championships in New Zealand.
His latest triathlon saw him finish second in Shropshire on Sunday.
He finished the 1,500m swim in sixth place but a strong 40km bike ride and 10km run put him on the podium in an overall time of 2hours 6mins.
