WITH his Woolston Rovers side on the verge of becoming league champions, Mal Holt has urged focus ahead of a trip to Oldham St Annes on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

The Green and Golds need just one point from their remaining two games to win the National Conference League Division Three title.

However, they are tasked with beating a St Annes side who are bang in form.

“Through sheer hard work and togetherness, we are now just one point away from claiming the league title” head coach Holt said.

“The attitude has been first class all season and no matter which 17 players have gone on the field, they have all been focussed on doing the job.

“The game at St Annes won’t be easy – they have won their last six games so are in an extremely confident mood.

“We will need to be switched on from the kick off, patient in our attack and strong in defence. Our discipline will also need to be good.

“If we can achieve all of these things, we will have a great chance.”

Rovers confirmed their status as champions-elect with a 10-try thrashing of Heworth, who had two players sent off.

That result, coupled with a defeat for nearest rivals Hunslet Warriors, put Holt’s men on the brink of glory.

“The first twenty minutes was an arm-wrestle, but we then showed our class in a fiery encounter by playing some outstanding rugby,” Holt said.

“The attitude and discipline was first class once again and it enabled us to take control for long periods.”

Aaron Barber scored a hat-trick of tries and three goals, with Justin Becker adding a brace while Dan Fearnley, Lewis Hoarty, Matt Taylor, Ben Dixon and Kieran Moore also crossed.

Dixon kicked five goals, with substitute Kieran Sudlow adding one more.
