EVEN though they have won their past eight league games, Warrington Wolves Women have been “brought back down to Earth” ahead of their next game.

The Wire Women welcome Oulton Raidettes to Victoria Park today, kick off 2pm, looking to at least maintain their three-point lead at the top of the Women’s Championship.

They will be favourites to do so as their visitors sit bottom of the table, but Westwood says his players are a targeted for fired-up opposition sides purely due to the shirt they wear.

However, he says many of the players at his disposal have the ability to “really excel” in the Women’s Super League should they gain promotion.

“Everyone wants to beat us now because we’re Warrington Wolves. It’s doesn’t really matter where we are in the table,” he said.

“In the last couple of weeks, we’ve had some really big results and we needed a bit of a jolt to bring us back down to Earth a little bit.

“We got that in the first half at Stanningley.

“It’s tough and we’ve got to keep getting better and better, especially if we go up into Super League.

“There is a special bunch of girls in there and some of them will really excel in Super League if we make it that far.”
