A TRIP to a promotion rival beckons for Warrington Wolves Women this weekend.

They will aim to extend their three-point lead at the top of the Women’s Championship with another victory on Sunday but face a tough trip to third-placed Stanningley.

However, the journey will hold no fear for Lee Westwood’s side as they already hold a victory over the pre-season promotion favourites this season – The Wire won the reverse fixture 30-16 at Victoria Park back in April.

Furthermore, they travel to Yorkshire on a run of seven straight league wins, the latest of which was Sunday’s 52-4 win at neighbours Widnes Vikings.

Skipper Roxy Murdoch once again led from the front as she scored a brace of tries, with dummy-half Megan Garvey also crossing twice.

Samantha Simpson, Sally Conyers and Amy Daniels all scored before the break as Wolves took control, with Juliet Porter crossing for Widnes’ sole reply.

After the interval, the impressive Rebekah Wilson capped her display with a fine individual try to go with a further effort from Rowanne Smalley as The Wire finished with nine tries, eight of which were converted by Michelle Davis.

Sunday’s game at Stanningley kicks off at 2pm.
