WARRINGTON Wolves could be about to look to the Championship for their latest signing.

The Wire are being strongly linked with a move for Swinton Lions outside back Matty Ashton, with reports suggesting a deal to bring him to The Halliwell Jones Stadium for next season is nearing completion.

Swinton would be entitled to a fee for 21-year-old Ashton, who is the second tier’s leading try-scorer having crossed 23 times in just 21 games and is comfortable at full-back and on the wing.

It would be the second time in as many seasons that The Wire have signed a player from the Championship, with Matt Davis joining from then-second tier side London Broncos ahead of this campaign.
