THREE of Warrington Athletics Club’s veteran runners have been on winning form of late.

The over 55s age group proved the most profitable one, with three club athletes victorious in as many different events.

Dave Norman won in this category at the Tony Barnes Memorial Sefton Park 5-mile road race – his time of 29mins 48secs was good enough for 23rd place overall – while Steve Watmough came 31st in the latest Sale Sizzler race in 16mins 59secs.

Completing the over 55s victories was Colin Bishop, who finished ninth overall at Vale Royal Athletics Club’s annual Pie and Peas trail race by clocking 28mins 59secs.

Bishop finished one place and 11 seconds behind younger clubmate Jordan Jones, who ran well in his debut over the distance to place third in the under 20s age group.

Jones was competing in place of father Nick, who was unable to take up his invitation to race due to ill health.

Meanwhile, five Warrington athletes took part in the latest Trafford Grand Prix outing, with Joel Birchall winning his under 17s 800m race in a personal-best 2mins 5.43secs.

Joe Roberts also set a new best in the same age group over 3,000m, with his time of 9mins 38.3secs placing him 13th.

Ellen Turnbull was eighth over 800m while Isaaq Ataullah came home ninth in his 1,500m race.

In the under 15s, Erik Marshall finished just off the podium in fourth, completing the 1,500m race in 3mins 38.55secs.
