WARRINGTON Town will go into the new campaign without the services of Russell Benjamin.

Yellows confirmed his departure ahead of their final home pre-season friendly against City of Liverpool on Tuesday night.

The 27-year-old midfielder has left the club to join National League North side Southport on a one-year deal.

He made five starts last season and was named on the bench 20 times.

Paul Carden’s side will have one more warm-up fixture at Runcorn Linnets on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, before the new BetVictor Premier Division campaign commences at home to Morpeth on August 17.

Yellows came out on top of a tough contest with City of Liverpool 2-1 at Cantilever Park.

They had to come from behind having conceded an own goal through goalkeeper Tony McMillan.

Clair’s shot came back off the crossbar and into the net off the Yellows’ stopper.

The visitors could have been two goals up by the break but the woodwork this time came to Town’s rescue when Brown’s thump of a shot hit the post.

Three minutes after the restart though Yellows were back on level terms.

A free-kick delivered by Vassallo was nudged past the keeper.

Town’s winner came in the 70th minute.

Byrne crossed from the left, Amis flicked the ball towards goal and then a trialist edged home.

Town's goalscoring summer continued at Prescot Cables on Saturday.

Three days after a 4-1 win at Litherland Remyca Utd, Paul Carden's side came out on top 5-1 in a full-blooded contest at Prescot Cables.

Ben Garrity, Jack Dunn, Josh Amis and Alex Byrne hit the target against Remyca.

Yellows have scored 28 goals and conceded five in seven matches.

After having racked up seven goals twice, five goals twice, and four goals once, only Football League outfit Accrington Stanley have found a way to keep Paul Carden's side scoreless so far.
