A BOOST for schools football in Warrington has emerged.

Town representative teams have been reformed at under 13s (year eight) and under 15s (year 10) levels.

It will provide a pathway for talented players to be considered for county selection.

Mark Bellers, the under 13s coach who is behind the move along with under 15s coach Paul McKean, said: "It is important to provide an opportunity for the outstanding footballers in the Warrington area."

The teams will play in the North West Schools Association League, plus the Cheshire SFA Cup & the English Schools National Cup.

Opponents in the league will include Liverpool, Wirral, Preston and Bolton.

The previous remaining school town team disbanded about two years ago due to lack of coaching volunteers and funding.

"It will be great for the development of these players to pit themselves against strong opposition," said Bellers.

"Schools representative football is the gateway to representing the county. A player has to first play for their schools district team before being considered for Cheshire."

Trials have taken place, with students attending from every secondary school in the town, and the under 13s have already played a friendly.

"My main challenge is to raise funds to be able to purchase a kit for the new season in September," said Bellers.

"We are looking for sponsorship to enable the team to run successfully."
