JOE Buckley was not going to let injury force him out of his debut international race.

Running for the England North team in the Welsh Athletics Under 20s International 3000m, which included the Welsh Championships, Buckley had the misfortune to tread on the kerb around the inside of the Cardiff International Sports Complex track early in the race, twisting his ankle badly.

Not wanting to fail to finish, he continued in pain to cross the line in 10th place overall with a time of 9mins 5.47secs, which earned him seventh in the international field.

Five took part in the Trafford Grand Prix for Distance and Throws at Longford Stadium, Trafford.

In the 800m, under 17 Joel Birchall finished second in his race with a time of 2mins 06.26secs while in an under 15s race Erik Marshall was sixth with 2mins 15.82secs.

In the 1500m under 17 Isaaq Ataullah was sixth in his race in 4mins 12.41secs and under 17 Joe Roberts won his race in 4mins 37.70secs.

In the women’s hammer under 20 Megan Kettle finished fifth with a throw of 36.18m and was fourth under 20.

Two of the club's master athletes took part in the Northern Masters 5000m Championships at Ashton-under-Lyne.

Running in the race for over 45s David Gill came home eighth in 20mins 07.0secs and Mervyn Ward was ninth in 20mins 39.8secs, placing them second and third respectively in the over 60s category.

Colin Bishop finished 18th in the Helena Tipping Wrexham 10K road race in 35mins 23secs to win the over 55s age group.

Steve Burthem was 96th overall in the Kentmere Horsehoe Fell Race at Kendal in 2hrs 12mins 45secs to finish 11th in the over 50s age group.

Tom Greaves made the journey to the Harvey Hadden Sports Complex in Nottingham for the 5000m Track Challenge.

Running in race seven Greaves crossed the line 15th in a personal best time of 16mins 12.72secs.
