Woolston Rovers 28 Hunslet Warriors 22

A FINE comeback helped Woolston Rovers to the top of National Conference League Division Three as head coach Mal Holt hailed their display as “titanic.”

Adam Files’ try with just four minutes remaining allowed Rovers to leapfrog their opponents and strengthen their bid for promotion.

That was Files’ second try of the afternoon against a Hunslet side who led 20-12 after an hour at Monks Sports Club.

Alex Smith, Justin Becker and Christian Taylor added further tries for Rovers while Theo Holt kicked three conversions and a penalty.

Holt said the victory was a demonstration of the attitude in his dressing room.

“They came with a gameplan but the lads spoilt those plans with a titanic display,” he said.

“We spoke all week about how good our attitude and togetherness is and we that really showed.

“Hunslet came knowing that if they won then they would have one hand on the league title and when they led 20-12 on the hour the Woolston lads could have laid down, but we are a different animal this year.

“We refused to panic, stayed really calm and played to our structure.

“The atmosphere in the sheds and then in the clubhouse after the game was the best I have seen at Woolston.”
