Drighlington 16 Woolston Rovers 24

MAL Holt praised a “dominant” Woolston Rovers packed as they laid the foundations for a hard-fought victory.

By claiming two points at Drighlinton, the Green and Golds kept up the pressure on National Conference League Division Three leaders Hunslet Warriors, whom they face on Saturday.

The Files brothers did much of the damage as loose forward Harry crossed twice having been set up on both occasions by brother Adam, who added a try himself.

Dan Fearnley was Woolston’s other try-scorer while Ben Dixon converted all four of Rovers’ scores.

After the game, Holt hailed an “excellent” defensive display from his side against the last team to beat them in the league.

“That was a really hard physical game that saw us claim a deserved two league points,” he said.

“It was always going to be tough against a side that won at our ground at the end of May – our last loss – but the boys stood tall.

“They had a big heavy pack but our forwards dominated them for long periods and that laid the platform for us to get the result.

“Our defence was excellent although we lacked a little execution in attack, but we can work on that in training this week.”
