MEG Corker was Warrington Athletics Club’s star performer at a high-class English Schools Championships.

She came home with a silver medal in the junior girls’ 75m hurdles, finishing behind defending champion Mia McIntosh.

Corker won Friday’s heat, clocking 11.59secs into a strong 5.3 metres per second win to qualify for the final in which she ran 11.18secs.

She was also part of Cheshire’s 4x100m relay team as they finished second in their heat and sixth in the final, with Corker running the anchor leg on both occasions.

In the intermediate girls age group, Ashley Nemits missed out on the 300m final but just three hundredths of a second.

She placed third in her heat but her time of 40.98secs meant she just missed out on an automatic qualifying time, with only the top two in each heat progressing.

Orla Gregory came 10th in a high-class junior girls’ 1,500m heat but her time of 4mins 50.24secs was not enough to qualify for the final.

For the senior boys, Jordan Jones clocked 6mins 42.50secs to finish 10th in the 2,000m steeplechase while the 3,000m race saw Joe Buckley come home 20th in 8mins 57.95secs.
