FOR Scott Sephton, this season with Warrington Town may just mean a little bit more.

Having become Yellows’ second summer signing last week, he will be keen to make this campaign a special one for reasons beyond the obvious.

Although he was born in St Helens, the central midfielder considers himself a genuine Warrington local as he lives in Orford.

It adds to a growing number of players with a genuine connection to the town – skipper Mark Roberts has settled in Stockton Heath while striker Dom Reid is Warrington born and bred.

“This is my adopted town as I live here,” Sephton said.

“The training and everything will be on my doorstep, so it’s very handy from that perspective.

“It will be easy for the family to come and watch me play as well.

“It may not be that people know me around the town, but they will see me walking around in the club tracksuit and know that I represent the club and the town.

“It makes it mean that little bit more to me.”

Scott Sephton is Yellows' second summer signing

Having turned out for the likes of Buxton, Ashton United and Prescot Cables among others, Sephton adds yet more experience to a squad already packed with know-how.

He was part of the Bucks squad who, like Warrington, reached the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-offs.

Both campaigns ended in heartbreak – Yellows agonisingly losing out in the ‘super play-off’ against King’s Lynn Town while Buxton’s campaign ended at the divisional semi-final stage at the hands of South Shields.

With both those experiences in mind, 28-year-old Sephton has only one thing on his mind for the coming season.

“We have to be looking at the play-offs, if not winning the league,” he said.

“They just missed out last season so going up has to be the target again.

“My main objective coming in is to help the club win the league.

“The club were unlucky last time with the super play-off but if we do the same again, we will go up this year.”

With Robbie Evans having departed for Curzon Ashton, Sephton’s arrival is a necessary one to fill a gap in Town’s midfield.

He must still compete with the likes of Ben Garrity, Shaun Beeley and Russell Benjamin for a spot in the Yellows engine room.

However, Sephton feels that will only make him go to another level.

“I’m glad it’s been sorted before pre-season. I can focus now on getting fit and looking forward to the games to head into the season,” he said.

“From playing against them last year, I know this group is a tough group.

“The play-off games didn’t go as planned for them but they were a very strong side and they didn’t stop.

“Competition for places is good and I know I’m coming into a very strong team. That’s only going to push me to do better myself.

“I’d like to think I’ll bring a lot of energy – I’m a fit lad and I like to get around the pitch.

“I like getting on the ball as well. Hopefully I can add a few goals as well to help the team.”
