WARRINGTON Athletics Club are celebrating successes at both ends of the age spectrum.

David Gill defended an over 60s British Championships title at the weekend, while club members won events in the Cheshire Schools Minor (Year 7) Championships.

For the third year in a row, Gill won his age group in the North Downs 30K Trail Race in Gravesend, Kent, which incorporated the British Masters Multi Terrain Championships.

Overall he finished 63rd of 551 finishers, clocking 2hrs 33mins 10secs.

Meanwhile, under 11s competitors Evie Schofield and Corey Beechall triumphed for Warrington in hurdles events in the Cheshire Schools Championships staged at Victoria Park.

Schofield won the girls’ 70m hurdles in 11.7secs and Beechall won the boys’ 75m hurdles in 12.9secs.

There were more strong performances from their Warrington AC clubmates in the event.

Alice Nicholson smashed her personal best 800m time when finishing second in 2mins 36.6secs.

In the 100m Lacey Taylor and Evie Iye finished in fifth and seventh places with times of 14.4secs and 15.0secs respectively.

Harriet Bell was seventh on her debut over 1500m in 5mins 43.1secs. Evie Owen was 10th in the same race in 6mins 2secs.

In the boys’ events, Bradley Kernahan finished fifth in the 100m in 13.1secs and in the javelin Zak Chamun set a personal best with a throw of 25.97m as he finished in third place.

Three from the club tackled the Young Athletes Quadrathlon Competition at Sportcity in Manchester.

In the under 11 girls event Ellie Barker finished finished fourth - six points outside of the medals - in the under 11s girls’ event.

She was second fastest in the 75m, smashing her best time with 11.25secs (69 points).

Barker also obliterated previous bests in the 600m and long jump in which she claimed fifth and second places on her way to a total of 288 points.

Amelia Smithers, in her first year in the under 15s age group, clinched joint 21st position with 201 points. Her performances in the 100m and long jump were personal bests.

Lewis Shaw was 18th in the under 13s boys’ competition with a total of 136 points. He missed his personal best in the long jump by one centimetre.

Two Warrington Athletic Club sprinters took part in the Trafford Grand Prix for sprints and jumps at Longford Stadium, Trafford.

In the 100m, David Cooper finished third in his race recording a new personal best time of 11.98secs, while in his race under 17 Theo Danquah won and also recorded a new personal best time of 11.93secs.

Danquah also competed in the long jump finishing in seventh place with a personal best jump of 5.24m.
