WARRINGTON’S Cheshire Football League clubs will have the “sin bin” rule in play when the 2019/20 season gets underway.

The rule, which would see players temporarily dismissed for instances of dissent, has been trialled at lower levels over the past two seasons and the FA has now seen it fit to implement the ruling at Step Seven of the non-league pyramid.

This means Greenalls PSO, Daten, Eagle Sports, Moore United, Orford and Grappenhall Sports could see their players sit out up to 10 minutes at a time for dissent.

Talks are ongoing about the system being implemented at steps five and six – which would include Rylands – but this has yet to be confirmed.

Results from the pilot period indicate a 38 per cent reduction in dissent offences across the leagues that took part.

If a player receives two dissent cautions in the same game, they cannot rejoin the game but may be substituted if not all substitutes have been used.

A booking for dissent will not count towards the two yellow cards required to receive a sending-off – only two non-dissent cautions will result in a red card.

Time in the sin bin will begin when play resumes and the referee will be the sole arbiter of when a player can return to the field.
