DAVE Gill came home from Sunday’s Northern Masters Championships with a hatful of medals.

The Warrington Athletics Club veteran won three golds, a silver and a bronze in the over 60s age group in Bury, with his wins coming in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 400m.

His 100m hurdles time of 18.9secs and his silver medal-winning 100m effort of 14.7secs were both his fastest times since moving into a new age group, while his bronze medal came in the 200m.

Clubmate Joanne Chamun won golds in the womens’ over 40s shot put and javelin while over 50s athlete Linda Dykes brought home silver in the 100m and 200m.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Warrington Athletics Club managed to win their UK Youth Development League match on Saturday despite not being at full strength.

Evie Schofield and Lacey Taylor were winners in the under 13s age group while Meg Corker and Lisa Halliday continued their fine hurdles form in the under 15s, with Corker equalling her UK-leading 75m hurdles time of 11.0secs to win the A race.

Corey Beechall was the star performer for the boys, winning the A 75m hurdles in a personal-best 12.8secs to move him into the top 10 in the UK under 13s rankings while he also won the A high jump.

Overall, Warrington racked up 452 points to win the match ahead of Salford Metropolitan.

Another of the club’s youngsters was in action again the best in his age group at the England Athletics under 20/under 23 Championships at the weekend.

Joe Buckley was running in the men’s under 20s 5,000m race and while he finished sixth in 15mins 19.88secs, he was just five seconds behind the third-place runner and less than 10 seconds behind the winner.

Closer to home, Colin Bishop was victorious in the Manchester Road Runners Canal 10km trail race on Saturday, with the over 50s masters athlete clocking 37mins 3secs.

At the Woolston 10km road race on Thursday, Louise Blizzard won the women’s over 40s age group and was fifth woman home overall in 41mins 24secs.
