Woolston Rovers 28 Waterhead Warriors 16

MAL Holt says the next month will be crucial in shaping Woolston Rovers’ season after a fourth straight victory on Saturday.

Waterhead Warriors were seen off to keep them top of National Conference League Division Three on points’ difference from Hunslet Warriors.

The Warriors visit Monk Sports Club on July 20 and the next calendar month also includes tricky trips to third-place Dewsbury Celtic and Drighlington, who handed one of only two home defeats so far this year.

“We have a tough July coming up that will go along way to shaping our season, so it was vital that we got the win,” Holt said.

“We put in a good performance against a steady Waterhead side that has kept us on top.

“We controlled large parts of the game and this saw us score some fine tries that got us the points required for the win.

“Our play-the-ball was much faster and that hurt Waterhead.

“We gave away a few silly penalties that allowed Waterhead to stay within touching distance but we composed ourselves in the closing stages to see the job through.”

Rovers ran in five tries with five different scorers in all, with Aaron Barber successful with four of his conversions.

Kieran Moore, Christian Taylor, Danny Griffiths, Harry Files and Alex Smith crossed the whitewash for Holt’s men.
