GARETH Wright took son George for a day’s fishing to the Mount at Buckley, where he set up with an 18-year-old three-metre whip with heavy elastic.

The 10-year-old had caught a fair number of roach and perch on maggot before his elastic shot out and a fight was on.

It ended after a 10-minute tussle with an 1lbs mirror that lay safely in a landing net.

He followed that with an even bigger one weighing 15lbs that took a liking to his corn and maggot cocktail - this time taking twice as long to land.

There are always rumours about big fish from our fisheries at Sandiway Lakes and this week is no exception with whispers of a forty from the large water.

I understand a number of thirties have also been landed from both.

While I have no confirmation, I am always hopeful the captors may eventually send some shots for identification purposes and to look at growth rates.

Anthony Rough fished the Trent and Mersey Canal on Sunday morning when he starting a session fishing bread punch on the pole towards the far bank reeds.

He caught well initially before the bites dried up.

However a change to loose-feeding pinkies with a single on the hook brought the fish back on the feed catching roach, perch and gudgeon.

Mike Pritchard fished Ackers Pit on Saturday, when he kicked off with pinkie but soon changed to caster for a better stamp of roach to 12oz.

He ended up with 30 roach, plus a few rudd of the same size all taken on waggler tactics.

Lennie Dutton was a winner for the second successive week in our latest disabled and over 60s match on the Bridgewater Canal.

His haul of roach caught on bread punch and perch fished on worm down the track weighed 4-7-0.

Dee bailiff Mike Lewis visited our stretch of the River Dee at Worthenbury late last month when he landed a fresh run salmon measuring 36inches in length on a fly and lost another.

All this for 50 quid a year!
