Wire head coach Steve Price chats once more to Guardian sports reporter Matt Turner

MT: It’s been a bit of a protracted arrival for Luther but it must be good to finally get him in?

SP: It is – it’s certainly been a while in coming. He’s a big thing, isn’t he?!

He had a very good back end of the union season and played some really good football. He’s fitted in really well – the boys have welcomed him with open arms and there’s been some banter going around.

Our lads are a pretty brutal bunch but he’s handled himself accordingly!

MT: Was it always in your mind to perhaps get him in a little early?

SP: That was always the plan. He had a bit of a break since his last game and he’s had a smooth transition.

He’s getting to understand roles and structures as well as the fitness component of churning out an 80-minute performance in rugby league.

He’s adapting accordingly at present but there’s still a long way to go.

MT: Any chance at all he could play before the start of July?

SP: I haven’t set a date for him to play. It’s more about him working hard and he’s got to be right to play when we need him to be.

When that time will come I don’t yet know. In saying that, our current centres are doing a really good job of the moment.

Form and training effort will all play a part.

MT: A quick injury update on the rest of the boys, how are they looking?

SP: In good shape, we’re all healthy and we’ve come through the Catalans game flying.

We had everybody on deck and training on Tuesday so there’s no concerns.

MT: We’re hearing a couple of rumblings about Kevin Brown being not far off at all – any update on him?

SP: He’s doing really well and is ticking all the boxes in his rehab.

I’ve been saying for a long time that he’s the ultimate professional and he’s doing everything right to make that comeback.

When that will be is another one I’m not quite sure on.

MT: Can we still expect Jake Mamo to come back in at full-back for Saturday?

SP: Yes, Jake will be back. I thought Josh Thewlis did a really good job on Saturday but Jake will come back in.

MT: Do you think Josh can consider himself to be a little unfortunate to miss out?

SP: No – he’s still only 17 years of age. He did his job accordingly and that’s all we asked of him.

He’s got to keep working hard and growing his game. He understands what that looks like and he’ll go back to the academy a better player for the experience.

There’s a lot of good years to come for him yet.

MT: Saturday must have been particularly satisfying as you showed you can win by neutralising and getting on top of a big and fearsome forward pack?

SP: They are a quality team – they have a strong roster and are running third for a reason.

It was a really tough opening 40 but we got our rewards in that last 20 minutes when the scoreline opened up.

That was because of all the hard work and opportunities we created.

They only got one try and only made one line break. I think we only missed 13 or 14 tackles for the whole game.

The attitude to work hard for each other on and off the ball was fantastic. That set up the end result.

MT: A lot has changed there in two weeks – are you expecting Hull KR to be a different side to what they were now Tony Smith is in charge?

SP: He introduced one or two different kinds of players on the weekend. It’s more about what we can control on Saturday, and that’s going out there and playing our style of football.

That’s all we’re setting ourselves out for this weekend.
