WARRINGTON Cricket Club’s first team were rewarded for their efforts to get their fixture played as they made further strides towards promotion.
The players got their wet-weather gear on to dry the Walton Lea pitch and outfield to ensure their clash with Stockport Georgians was one of only three fixtures played in Division Two of the Cheshire County Cricket League.
Once play did start, Warrington were once again indebted to a superb all-round display from South African Jono Fletcher, who led his side to a six-wicket victory
He claimed four wickets to help dismiss the visitors for just 78, with Chai Gadepalli chipping in with three scalps of his own.
With the bat, Fletcher finished unbeaten on 55 as Warrington easily chased down their target while Jamie Bye provided valuable support with a solid 21.
Warrington stay second but gained 18 points on leaders Lindow, who could only manage a draw at Congleton.
Over at Grappenhall, a wash-out for the firsts and seconds gave the third team the chance to take centre stage as they travelled to Alderley Edge.
They too were curtailed by rain but still found enough to record a four-wicket victory thanks in no small part to Richard Wiles’ superb 95 not out.
Earlier, Tom Clarke starred with the ball as he took 3-6 to restrict Edge to 137-7, with Ben Bravington picking up two wickets.
