LONGFORD'S Jesse Lingard was denied the chance to send England into the UEFA Nations League final in a moment of great controversy.
The former William Beamont High School pupil slotted home what looked like a winner against Holland in Guimaraes with barely five minutes remaining to spark wild celebrations among teammates and fans.
However, after a lengthy VAR check, it was ruled Lingard was marginally offside and the goal was disallowed.
Holland went on to win the semi-final clash 3-1 after extra time thanks to two horrendous defensive errors from Gareth Southgate's side.
