DAMIAN Morrison and Julie Chapman came out on top in the Festival Mixed Pairs at Padgate Tennis and Bowls Club.

They defeated Doris Cargill and Danny Watson 21-9 in the final on a day when they never looked in trouble.

Their 21-15 win in the quarter-finals against home players Anne and Dave Hall was the closest match they had.

Cargill and Watson also eased their way through three rounds to the final, following a 21-10 and two 21-11 victories.

Losing semi finalists were T Judson and P Gammon, D and P Blackburn-Woods.

Larry Wells produced some fine performances at the weekend.

The Grange A bowler won the Warrington Seniors League Walter King Singles Trophy on Friday, defeating Bewsey’s M Burrows in the final of a competition that featured Kevin Wainwright (Woolston A) and S Nixon (Grange A) in the last four.

On Sunday he inflicted the heaviest defeat experienced in a county match by 2013 All-England winner Greg Smith.

Wells overhauled Smith, who was undefeated in his previous 40 matches, 21-14, for Cheshire against Warwick and Worcester at Metro Sports and Social Club in Stretford.

He helped Cheshire to a 220-189 home win but they lost 428-405 on aggregate.

Warrington’s Carl Armitage and Lee Johnstone lost 21-13 and 21-19 respectively in the away leg.

Wells’ weekend also included a 21-16 loss to eventual runner-up Gary Wike in the quarter finals of the King and Queen Classic on Saturday.

Wainwright won his last-eight tie against Ryan Clark 21-18 but fell to competition winner Dave Worthington 21-20 in the semi finals.
