IT is perhaps fitting that Hull KR stand in the way of The Wire's Challenge Cup progress tomorrow.

As Steve Price's men bid to write a new chapter in Warrington's history with the famous old trophy, today marks exactly 10 years since one of the more memorable Challenge Cup clashes between the two sides.

On May 20, 2009, Wolves and Hull KR's quarter-final clash at Craven Park was locked at 24-24 after 80 minutes, with Vinnie Anderson, Jon Clarke, Matt King and Chris Bridge crossing for Tony Smith's side.

A nerve-wracking period of golden point followed, but the magic moment came five minutes into it.

After Richie Mathers, Bridge, Garreth Carvell and Clarke had taken Wolves from deep inside their own territory, Mickey Higham supplied the perfect pass from dummy-half to Lee Briers, who was within firing range for a drop goal.

The rest, as they say, is history...

Behind both sets of posts at Craven Park, the masses of Wire fans were jubilant as their side moved to within one win of their first trip to Wembley since 1990.

Of course, this was followed by a semi-final win over Wigan before Huddersfield were dispatched in the final, and the Challenge Cup was brought back to Warrington.
