JAKE Mamo paid tribute to his Wire teammates for “hanging in there” in order to beat Wigan Warriors at Magic Weekend.

The Wire emerged 26-14 victors at Anfield as they beat their neighbours for the third time this season.

Mamo, who was playing his first game in two months after being sidelined with an ankle injury, was glad to come through unscathed after replacing Stefan Ratchford – out for around three months with a pectoral injury – at full-back.

“It was exciting to play at a stadium like this – it was definitely good to be back,” he said.

“I’ve been pushing hard for the past eight weeks.

“It was a tough game but we hung in there. It was a massive arm-wrestle all the way up to probably the 70-minute mark.

“Everyone was working hard – I probably haven’t played in a game like that for a long time.

“It kept me going for the full 80 and tested the fitness, that’s for sure.

“I was a little off the mark – I haven’t trained properly for the past couple of months.

“I was off the pace a little bit and there were a few balls I didn’t get to, but it’s all stuff to work on.

“It’s always a little nerve-wracking under the high ball but I was glad not to make any errors.”
