THE season has barely finished, but Warrington Town have made their first new signing for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Guardian can reveal that versatile forward Alex Byrne has joined Yellows from Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals Gainsborough Trinity.

Byrne, 25, can operate on the wing or in a “number 10” role behind the main striker and can count Shaw Lane and Northwich Victoria among his former clubs.

“I had a long chat with the gaffer – he’s been after me for a couple of seasons now," he said.

“When we spoke about the upcoming season and the role I’d have in the team, he really sold it to me.

“I knew it was a good club anyway but talking to Cardy really sold me the dream.

“When I spoke to Cardy, he told me a lot of the players from last season were staying on and that to me was a really strong team."

The news continues a good week for the club after manager Paul Carden agreed an extension to his current deal at Cantilever Park.

Yellows have also confirmed the first members of their existing squad to agree to remain with the club next season.

Goalkeeper Tony McMillan, defender Dave Raven, winger Jack Dunn and striker Josh Amis will all be staying at Cantilever Park.
