WIRE Gymnastics Club will be representing Great Britain this summer.

The club, based on the Trident Industrial Estate in Birchwood, will be taking part in World Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn, Austria, from July 7 to 13.

Wire gymnasts aged eight to 18 will be among 800 from GB and more than 23,000 individuals from a record-breaking 60 countries featuring in the week-long, non-competitive festival.

Team kit has already been collected from the national rehearsal day in Nottingham and excitement is now growing for what is the Warrington club’s second Gymnaestrada event.

Emma Doherty, Wire Gymnastics Club head coach, said: “We are very excited to be part of such a large team travelling out to Austria and wearing our GB kit.

"Our routine is called ‘Love is what makes a family’ and we have three sets of sisters that dance together in the routine, so it’s going to be very special.”

The event takes place every four years.

British Gymnastics chief executive Jane Allen said: “Gymnaestrada is a very unique event and brilliant opportunity for gymnasts and fans from all over the world to celebrate our sport in a non-competitive way, so I look forward to seeing their performances in Austria this July.”
