THE Lancashire squad for its first Women’s Rugby League Origin fixture of the season against Yorkshire in Blackpool this weekend has a strong Warrington influence.

Wolves captain Roxy Murdoch, the wife of The Wire’s Ben Murdoch-Masila, along with recent signing Michelle Davis have been selected in Shaun Briscoe’s squad for a match that kicks-off the second day of the sport’s Summer Bash weekend at Bloomfield Road.

Former England full-back Briscoe, who is rugby league manager at the Warrington Wolves Foundation, also has a number of Warrington born-and-bred players in his squad for Sunday.

Jodie Cunningham, Tara Jones and Emily Rudge, who all play in Super League for St Helens and have five teammates in the squad, add to the Warrington connections.

The match will offer a chance at representative level to impress England selectors for the World Cup Nines in Sydney in October.

A second Origin match will be staged in Yorkshire on June 16.

Lancashire beat Yorkshire 16-10 when they met in Featherstone last year.
