JOSH Amis says scoring Warrington Town’s winner in their play-off final victory at South Shields was “an unbelievable feeling.”

The striker had not found the net since February before lashing home an 87th-minute winner at Mariners Park yesterday to put Yellows within touching distance of the National League North.

Fellow substitute Dylan Vassallo had earlier equalised for Town, who trailed at the break thanks to Josh Gillies’ goal for Shields.

Amis has now scored in all three meetings with the Tynesiders this season and he says the team were always confident of winning at Mariners Park for a second time.

“It’s a unbelievable feeling to come on and be a part of it,” he said.

“The ball came over to the back stick, Ben (Garrity) has headed it down and I was just in the right place at the right time. Thankfully it went in!

“They hadn’t been beaten at home this season until we came here last time.

“We came here full of confidence and it showed in the lads’ performance.

“They couldn’t get out – we were really putting pressure on and dominating.

“It looked like they had no answers to us and we finally got the goal.

“They threw a big man on and we came under a little bit of pressure but we dug in.”

> How Yellows solved the South Shields conundrum again

Amis replaced Bohan Dixon partway through the second half and played a part in Town’s equaliser by flicking Jack Mackreth’s cross into Dylan Vassallo’s path.

He was an unused substitute in the semi-final win over Nantwich Town having missed the previous three games with a hamstring injury.

His physical presence troubled the South Shields defence from the outset and he says he enjoyed giving them something else to think about.

“Bohan’s a big lad and he has similar attributes to me, but he likes to get on the more while I’m more of an argy-bargy centre forward,” he said.

“I’ll wrestle with the centre-halves and it’s something a little bit different.

“Cards just told me to go on and do what I do – it worked for me.”
