STEVE Price said he made a late call on deciding not to select Bryson Goodwin in the clash with Castleford Tigers.

His absence meant Ryan Atkins returned to the team at centre and Jack Johnson was handed his first Super League start since 2017 on the left wing.

An alternative wing option, Jake Mamo, was not fit for selection.

“Bryson started training yesterday," said Price.

"He was keen to play but I just felt that it was right to give him a rest this week. He’ll be 100 per cent ready to go next week.

“It was a good opportunity for JJ and he played accordingly.

“Goodwin just copped a bit of a bang on his ankle early in the game against Huddersfield last week and did well to play over 65 minutes.

“We’ve got a lot of boys on the sidelines who are itching to get into the 17. I’ve got Lama Tasi, Ben Westwood, Danny Walker all chopping down trees to get back in that team.

“Jake Mamo wasn’t in the mix for tonight. He’s still got a bit of a niggle in the ankle from the Hull FC game.

“He’s doing everything he can but it’s a week to week one for him.

“They can be quite a challenging injury to get over but he’s getting quite close.

“From what I can see, we’re in pretty good shape otherwise.”
