WARRINGTON Town were set on their way to victory by one of the goals of the season yesterday.

In the 25th minute against Stalybridge Celtic, Tony Gray rifled an unstoppable free kick into the top corner to put Yellows on course for a 2-1 victory at Bower Fold.

> Yellows move up to second and close gap on leaders

After the game, Yellows boss Paul Carden was in awe of Gray's effort having seen Jack Dunn fail to test the goalkeeper twice from similar positions

“We were winding Tony up saying it (the free kick) took a deflection," he said.

“It was an absolute Exocet really – it was in as soon as it left his foot.

“We’d had two free kicks direct and Dunny put one over the stand and one into the wall.

“I think Tony played the seniority card to push him off the next one and stuck it in the top corner.”

> Carden calls Yellows display 'dogged with a bit of quality'

Of course, this is not the only time Gray's dead-ball exploits have caught the eye.

His injury-time free kick in the 1-1 draw against Lancaster City in January was featured in an Adidas advert and was watched by football legends David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.

Yellows are back in action tomorrow as they welcome neighbours Witton Albion to Cantilever Park, kick off 3pm.
